How about we all go and share our opinions on the various SI's in the game in respect to gameplay? Perhaps it'd help give CCP some ideas on what type of stuff we like and what we don't. I'll start, however I do not have any "names" for them so I'll do my best to describe which one's I am talking about.
This giant warehouse. And from the inside. It is very fun (but doesn't show up enough), it has lots of verticality, cover, and open areas, even areas big enough for tanks or dropships to move through (which is awesome for an indoor SI). What's even better is the verticality is very easily accessed, simply running up one of the outside corners or moving about on catwalks, no unnecessarily large ladders. The blend of open area and cover is also nice as it gives medium range weapons an edge but short range users can bounce from cover to cover to close the gaps.
The small SI that digs underground with an acid pit. This again is very fun but again pretty rarely seen. Like the large warehouse, it has a nice bit of verticality which is easily accessed without the need of annoying ladders (a bit of a theme here). Also really fun how there's a risk of falling into the acid but still away out (although it is a ladder, arghh!).
This large SI, I believe it is called the Biomass? It's my absolute favorite large SI, mainly because of the featured building. It has multiple rooms, one of which always gives me a "carbon freezing chamber" vibe. I love how there is the bridge you can use as shortcut to the rest of the area, and some damaged bits of the exterior wall so you don't have to be funneled in through the choke point gates. The interior building offers a nice change up with focused CQC contrasted with nearly everything else in Dust. Leading a squad from the open roads outside and into the building feels is always a thrilling breach. I don't really know what more I can say about it, it just feels like the most "alive" SI and the flow of gameplay is great on it.
Well enough with the praise, it's not all that great. Especially this on here, the orbital cannon large SI. There's some cool things here, like the route along the walls you can take from the CRU to objective C that remains mostly close combat or the direct route across the street for mid range combat so you can choose what suits you best, and there is the cool underground road with broken pipes and stuff that leads into objective B, but besides that there's not much going for it. For one all the verticality is blocked behind the overly excessive ladders. Really, who likes ladders? These are just death traps that slow down the pace of the game. Why not instead have to interior staircase that goes all the way to the roof? And once you are up on the roof your options as limited. There's passages that look like you could fit through them but you can't, guess not much internal testing goes into rooftop navigation? Also nearly all the combat is focused around A and C, while objective B feels detached entirely.
So there's a handful on my opinions on a few of the SI's, what are your thoughts? Perhaps you love the ones I hate or vice-versa? |

My favorite though we call the green city, dunno the actual name, the most violent map around You referring to that Gallente large SI? The one where B is in that building with the narrow walkway with two nicely size rooms on each end with a couple windows looking at each other? Yes, that one is killer. I love the combat that breaks out when you got one team in one of those rooms and the other team right across in an epic stare off. Also learned some tricks to get drop uplinks in places on foot that the enemy team always has trouble finding. Pretty fun SI, my only real gripes with it is that for a Large SI everything is too infantry focused leaving vehicles with nothing (and I'm not even a vehicle guy!) There's basically one main road that cuts straight through the SI but it's very easy to avoid on foot. |
